Roe vs. Wade

 Roe vs. Wade

The Supreme Court has voted 5-4 to eliminate Roe vs. Wade which previously protected abortion rights for women. The decision to protect abortion rights came to be in 1973 and was secured in 1992 during Planned Parenthood vs Casey. The current Supreme Court firmly believes that by handing abortion rights to elected representatives, they can heed the Constitution. This marks an end to half a century of protected abortion rights. Within the Supreme Court, the majority of justices believes that each the states should determine whether to protect or restrict abortion. Justice Alito had proposed the termination of Roe vs Wade, and this effort has been endorsed by four other justices. Abortion will become increasingly difficult especially in the South and Midwest as half of the states are predicted to impose abortion bans. The draft concludes by saying "The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each state from regulating or prohibiting abortion". Overturning Roe vs. Wade directly infringes on women's rights to make decisions concerning their own bodies. Various companies, just to name a few, have shown support to women and offer the following:

Microsoft: extended its financial support for “critical healthcare” to include abortion and will include coverage for travel expenses to travel to a state where abortion is protected.

Yelp: Pays women, family members, and partners to travel out of their state if abortion is not legal.

Disney: Disney offers its employees coverage to travel to other states where abortion is legal.

Netflix: offers travel reimbursement for employees that need to travel to a state where abortion is legal.

Other companies that have shown support to their female employees include:

  • Nike

  • Goldman Sachs

  • Uber

  • Bumble

  • Levi Strauss

  • Comcast-NBC Universal

  • Warner Bros Discovery

  • JPMorgan Chase

  • Starbucks

  • Zillow

  • Alaska Airlines
